This page shows some of the most important websites I use in my classroom. These different websites have been very useful. A couple of reasons I use them are for finding supplemental materials, allowing the students to have fun while learning, and keeping up with current events. Each logo on this page is linked to the website and there is a paragraph explaining the sites and what I use them for.
Flocabulary Engaging hip-hop songs and videos made specifically for use in the classroom. Gives students a different way to view learning. It also comes with lesson plans around the videos, quizzes, and reading materials to supplement it.
CNN 10 This a great resource for students to get their current events. It is ten minutes and updated with a new episode each day. There are multiple topics and they are broken down so students are able to understand what is being talked about.
BrainPOP There are many videos that supplement learning on different subjects. The videos are short, ranging from about three to six minutes for the Social Studies ones. There are questions students can answer after the video. While there is a login needed to see all the different videos, there are some that are free.
PowerSchool This allows for teachers to update students’ grades. Students and parents can check them in real time and see how they are doing in classes. It also breaks down the grade by each assignment so students can see what they did well and not so well on. It helps them see which assignments are missing or should be redone to improve their grade.
Remind Great communication device for parents and students. I can send out one message to all that have signed up and let them know about upcoming assignments or when grades have been updated in PowerSchool. I can also message back and forth with individual parents to clarify any questions they have.
Newsela Great website for finding articles for students. I am able to find many articles about each of the Social Studies subjects I teach. You can also edit the article by reading level to make sure it is appropriate for all students in the class. There is also a quiz that comes with it that students can do.
GeoGuessr This a great activity for students when they have a little extra free time in the class. They are given different google street views and have to try and figure out where it is located. Great for my class, as I teach mostly Geography.
NWEA Great teacher resource. Allows me to see the reading level of all students in my classroom. It also breaks down their reading level into different categories, so I can see which areas need the most improvement. Students are given the test three times a year and it shows the growth they make over an entire year.
Illuminate Education Allows for instant grading and feedback when students take a multiple choice test. When finished, they can scan their answers and see how they did. Great for pre- and post- assessments as it gives breakdowns to which questions students did well and poorly on. It can also break it down by class period and standard.
Discovery Education Great resource to help students learn with digital content. Teachers can find lessons and resources, as well as a digital textbook. It is all standard based. There is also a part for free educational resources for students where they can get more information on certain topics that are available.
Kahoot! Fun, engaging resource that students love to use. Create multiple choice questions that students have to answer. There is a time limit on each question. Students need a device like a Chromebook or cell phone to participate. They compete against one another to reach the leaderboard.
YouTube Resource that can be used by both teachers and students alike. Great for finding videos that supplement what is being learned in the classroom. There is a good chance you will be able to find a video on just about any topic. Can make it easier for students to understand material when put in a way that is grade appropriate for them.
Online Timer This is a must have for me in my classroom. I love timing things out and making sure students know how much time they have to complete something. It starts when they walk in for bell work and is used for whatever work we are doing that day. Also helps students see how much time they have to work and realize they need to stay on task to complete their assignments.
